Elitloppet will be the world's most profitable sulky race in 2022, with the winner of the final taking home SEK 5 million at Solvalla. And it is spiced up with a newly established eternal prize awarded by a legendary Elitlopp profile: Stig H Johansson's Cup!
Stig H Johansson has for more than 50 years been a power factor in Swedish trotting and for Elitloppet he is a living icon. Stig H saddled his first Elitlopp horse in 1971 (Big Elma) and has since participated as a driver in 28 Elitlopps, as a trainer in 32 - with six wins as a result.
- "Elitloppet is the golden day for everyone interested in trotting in this country," says Stig H Johansson.
Stig H Johansson's Elitlopp winners in chronological order are The Onion, Utah Bulwark, Napoletano, Peace Corps, Gum Ball and Victory Tilly.
The fact that he is further associated with Elitloppet in person also affects Stig H.
- "Anyone who has been at a high level in various kinds of competitions would have found this flattering. Not least because it's so nice to be reminded of certain things you've done really well," says Johansson.
The Stig H Johansson Cup will be replenished each year with the inscription of the Elitlopp winner's name.

Elitloppet is the main attraction during the Elitlopp weekend, which will be held at Solvalla in Stockholm on May 27-29, 2022. Elitloppet is an invitational race where 16 horses compete in two different trials with eight horses in each. The top four in each trial meet in a final where the winner receives five million SEK.
