One of Solvalla's greatest profiles of all time has passed away.
Stefan Hultman, 61, left us on Saturday.
Stefan Hultman got his interest in racing through his father Ove and saw his first Elitlopp as a ten-year-old, when the unforgettable Ego Boy triumphed.
Hultman took out a professional trainer's license at the age of 25, and had a job abroad in Tuscany before he returned to Sweden in 1994. His real boost in trotting life came when he started shoeing at Menhammar and also got the chance to train horses at Ekerö. Hultman celebrated enormous success with horses such as Naglo, Lie Detector, From Above, Triton Sund - and Maharajah, whose importance to Swedish trotting is enormous. Maharajah has won six straight stallion championships.
Stefan Hultman won "all" the big races; Prix d'Amérique (Maharajah), Elitloppet (From Above), Svenskt Travderby (Maharajah, From Above), Svenskt Travkriterium (From Above, Jaded, Maharajah), Svenskt Travoaks (Pine Dust), Europaderbyt (Naglo, Maharajah) is only a small selection.
Stefan Hultman was elected to the Trotting Hall Of Fame in 2017, having ended his trotting career before the age of 55 due to the muscle disease myasthenia gravis (MG). After his career as a trainer, Stefan Hultman was an appreciated expert on trotting TV and went home with the TV audience through his knowledge and outspokenness.
A fantastic professional has left us. Our thoughts are with Stefan's loved ones, partner Carina, sons and grandchildren.
