Solvalla increases the prize money in the Elitlopp trials in 2021, meaning that all starters in Elitloppet get a prize check to take home.

An additional SEK 100,000 will be paid into the Elitlopp trials and prize money will be paid to all starters, even if the horse is disqualified and for that reason does not complete the race.

- We have previously had overhead costs around each Elitlopp horse, now we move that money to the race instead, says Solvalla's sports manager Anders Malmrot.

Is it a 'pandemic solution' in 2021, or is it meant to be permanent?

- This is a long-term approach, although we are of course flexible. Through this, we want the conditions to be the same for all horses in Elitloppet," says Malmrot.

In 2018, prize money was introduced for all Elitloppet finalists, in 2021 a Elitlopp horse is guaranteed 25,000 SEK if it comes to the start.

In total, this means SEK 600,000 in prize money in the Elitlopp trials, the prize money in the final remains at SEK 6,000,000, with half going to the winner.

The Elitlopp weekend begins in 2021 on Friday, May 28 and culminates with Elitloppet at Solvalla on Sunday, May 30.
