This year's edition of the Sweden Cup, also called Lilla Elitloppet, had a surprising winner to say the least.
The run-up was a particularly thrilling story. At the front, Cyber Lane and Chief Orlando battled side by side, but as the finish line approached, Queer Fish came in a furiously fast finish and at the finish line, the 47-odd was first.
- I sat in the last corner and hoped to get a gap so that we could at least get a penny in the race, "said the victorious driver in the winner's circle.
- But my God, he bit in the end!
- "This is a huge victory for me," said Ulf.
Queer Fish is trained by Bollnäs amateur Magnus Träff, who was thrilled after the victory.
- I am so proud to have a horse like Queer Fish in the stable.
The victory was worth SEK 600,000. The winner got the winning time, a new personal record, 1.09,8 over the sprint distance.
Tomorrow, Sunday, the Elitloppet will be run for the top world elite. The first prize in Elitloppet is three million SEK. Ulf Eriksson will also be there - he is sitting behind Milligan's School from Solvalla trainer Stefans Melander's stable.
