All pre-purchased tickets will be offered to rebook for 2021 or to buy back.
- This is something we have been calculating since March 12. We have chosen to wait as long as we could, but now we announce the decision that Elitloppet 2020 will be run without an audience, says Solvalla's CEO Jörgen Forsberg.

The spread of the new coronavirus has led to laws, regulations and directives that have resulted in Solvalla and other Swedish racecourses completely closing down their public facilities since March 12. In addition to this, a number of restrictions have been introduced around the stables and the racecourses are today a strict workplace where only people who perform a job have access.

- We of course wholeheartedly support the efforts made in society to limit the spread of the virus - keeping the spectator areas closed and minimizing the number of people on the stable slopes are parts of this. Today, we see nothing that indicates that the conditions would change in a month and therefore we are already announcing that the spectator seats will be closed during the Elitlopp weekend 2020, says Jörgen Forsberg.

Elitloppet has been organized since 1952 and is one of Sweden's largest folk festivals. Usually, the Elitlopp weekend attracts between 40,000 and 50,000 visitors.

- Elitloppet has the best audience in the world. When guests from all over the world talk about Elitloppet, the audience and the great atmosphere is the first thing they mention. This year it will be a different Elitlopp, which we feel confident to be able to carry out safely. We hope that as many people as possible now instead take a seat in the TV sofas to follow the exciting competitions as we will offer fantastic fine sport, concludes Solvalla's CEO Jörgen Forsberg.

For all those who have already purchased tickets, we offer rebooking for the Elitlopp weekend 2021 or a refund.

Elitloppet is the main attraction during the elite race weekend organized at Solvalla in Stockholm on 29-31 May 2020. Elitloppet is an invitation race where 16 horses compete in two different trials with eight horses in each. The top four in each trial meet in a final where the winner receives three million SEK.

Questions and answers about Elitloppet

What has been decided?

Solvalla has decided that Elitloppet 2020 will traditionally be organized on the last weekend of May (29-31 May), but this year with closed spectator seats.

Why are you running Elitloppet given the current situation?

Since we can organize Elitloppet in a safe and secure way within the laws and regulations that currently exist, we have a responsibility to carry out the competitions. Trotting is the engine of the equine industry and it is important that we continue to race because the equine industry employs thousands of people who depend on the revenue generated by trotting. The continuation of racing is crucial for every single small business owner and employee in the industry and therefore also important for society. We also know that trotting, and especially Elitloppet, is a ray of hope for many and we need positive things to look forward to in these times. The whole weekend will be broadcast on TV, so there is still the opportunity to see the races if it is not possible to be on site.

Why not move Elitloppet to another date?

Current horses have long been matched against this weekend and at the same time it is difficult to find a time that works in both the national and international major race calendar. We also don't know when in time we will be allowed to open up the spectator places, so if we postpone the Elitloppet until later this summer, there is still no guarantee that it will be able to be carried out with a crowd. Finally, there is a long tradition of always organizing Elitloppet on the last weekend in May.

What does it mean for us in the audience?

The public seats are closed. There is no possibility to watch the races live at Solvalla, but the whole weekend will be broadcast on TV4/TV12 and ATG Live.

What does this mean for me as an existing ticket holder?

If you have purchased tickets, you are offered a rebooking for the Elitlopp weekend 2021 or a refund. We will comply with applicable laws and regulations and any directives from the Swedish Trotting Federation.

Will there be any changes to the races during the Elitlopp weekend?

Yes, the Sweden Cup on Saturday will be canceled and the French match will also be canceled on Sunday. There will also be new races to replace the Sweden Cup races. However, we have removed one race per day so that there will be twelve races on both Saturday and Sunday instead of 13.
Here you will find track program for the Elitlopp weekend
Holding times for the Elitlopp weekend.

Will there be any changes to prize money during the Elitlopp weekend?

Yes, a couple of races will be adjusted downwards and the biggest change is the reduction of prize money in Harper Hanover's race and the Montéeliten. This is because these are normally races with many international participants, but this year they will mainly be a showdown among Swedish horses. The first prize in Harper Hanover's race will be SEK 500,000 (previously SEK 900,000) and in Montéeliten SEK 200,000 (previously SEK 300,000).

Elitloppet 2020 kommer att avgöras inför tomma läktare.
